Juilliard’s third annual Fall Festival opens with a salute to the centennial of alum Miles Davis and a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Juilliard Jazz and the 75th anniversary of the Dance Division. Directed by Arnhold Creative Associate at Large Jamar Roberts, “one of the vital choreographers at work” (New York Times), this evening of collaboration across disciplines showcases the creativity and artistic exchange at the heart of Juilliard.

PLAZAWORK 2026 transforms Lincoln Center’s Hearst Plaza into a creative commons, where performance unfolds as a living, democratic experiment. Artists respond in real time to creative prompts, shaping a work that is continually in motion and unique to its outdoor setting. The result is a layered tapestry of sound and movement, blurring the line between performer, audience, and environment.

These free sessions in music, dance, and drama offer an accessible entry point into the creative process, alongside your neighbors and other kindred spirits.

Masks and Movement for Actors With Mark Olsen | 1:30–2:15pm
Discover how physical storytelling, character masks, and movement shape presence and precision onstage in this demonstration inspired by commedia dell’arte theater.
The Orchestra Up Close With Derek Weagle | 2:30–3:15pm
Take a guided tour of the orchestra, where every instrument has a voice and a story to tell. Listen to fun histories, surprising facts, and live instrument demonstrations—plus enjoy a special musical performance featuring the musicians together. No prior knowledge of the subject matter is required.
Ballet Basics With Ellie Kusner | 2:30–3:15pm
Explore foundational barre and center work focused on alignment, coordination, and musicality. Open to movers of all levels. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement.
